www.e-profesores.com Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! A few minutes after celebrating the start of 2002 I joined the queue to withdraw my first euros! The introduction of the euro was a brilliant logistical success. It is an example of what can be achieved when different countries work together. The year is ending with the ecological disaster caused by the oil spilled from the old tanker 'Prestige'. Thousands of fishing families will lose their source of income. Traditions will end. Related businesses will also be affected (distribution, restaurants etc) Why? We are seeing how ordinary people are responding to the disaster. Normal people from different parts of Spain and from overseas are working together to collect oil from beaches. Normal people are criticising the authorities for reacting slowly. Normal people are using the internet to organise a response to the disaster. Logistics (or perhaps the absence of logistics) will probably influence the future of some local politicians - even possible Prime Minister candidates! The earthenware ashtray is again from Buño, Galicia. It's bigger this time as people appear to be smoking more. For non-smokers the ashtray could be used with the candle - to cast some light on the mysteries of life! When I went to collect the ashtrays from the factory it was a Saturday. My contact arrived late - he had been fishing. I hope he will also arrive late next year for the same reason... Other links...
